Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most common garage door repair issues:

Garage door won’t respond

This is at the top simply because it is usually the most common issue garage door owners encounter. The first thing is to check if the batteries of the Garage door remote are working and are placed correctly. If they are then your remote might just need to be configured again. Check your manual to find the codes for your remote.

Garage door has a grinding noise or won’t work
If your garage door works with a chain or is drive-screw-operated does not work it can be fixed by applying a generous amount of silicone-based lubricant or garage door spray lube to the garage opener’s full length and be sure to remove the excess. Cold weather in Durham may cause this to happen, so always keep your Garage Door Opener lubricated.
Garage door tries to open, then immediately closes

When this issue occurs the reason is most likely that your Garage Door top springs are either malfunctioning or broken, therefore, they need to be replaced. You can save money by just replacing the broken springs, but this will cost you more in the long run and we do not recommend it. We suggest changing all springs at the same time, in most cases, there are exeptions.

Cracks or gaps on your garage door
Cracks gaps happen very often, either due to accidents or basketballs or to the weather here in Canada, especially if your door is made of wood. To keep cracks from getting bigger, use a waterproof filler or sealant.
The garage door closes then immediately opens
Your safety feature may be malfunctioning. This safety device called Photo-eyes is meant to stop the garage door from closing to avoid hitting something. Photo-eyes are small plastic devices that are located on both sides of the garage door. In order to fix this issue, you will need to realign the safety feature. In some cases the Photo-eyes may just be dirty, try wiping them down and removing dirt blocking their view.
